Published On: Tuesday, March 16, 2010

Dear students, as you may know that VU is working on some OSS projects. Students are also invited to participate in these projects. Its purpose is to equip you people with some analytical and programming skills and tips by working with highly skilled professionals of the community of selected OSS project(s).

Students of BS(CS) and BS(IT) who are going to enroll in 6^th semester in spring 2010 are invited to apply to participate in OSS projects. You can avail the following benefits by participating in these projects:

VU would give a stipend of Rs. 1500 to students having 3.0 or more then 3.0 CGPA and Rs. 1000 to students having CGPA below 3.0.
The OSS project would be considered as your final project which the students usually take in the 7^th semester as CS619. It means the students who decide to participate in OSS projects would not have to do a separate project as their final project to complete their degree.

Ayat 57. O you who believe! Take not for friend's (protectors and helpers) those who take your religion for a mockery and fun from among those who received the Scripture (Jews and Christians) before you, nor from among the disbelievers; and fear Allah if you indeed are true believers.

Hadith

English Translation of Hadith

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard The Messenger of Allah [S.A.W.W]((P.B.U.H) saying, "Man follows his friend's religion, you should be careful who you take for friends".

[At-Tirmidhi and Abu Dawud].

Lesson : as mentioned above in Surah Al-Ma'idah Ayat 57. O you who believe! Take not for friend's (protectors and helpers) those who take your religion for a mockery and fun from among those who received the Scripture (Jews and Christians) before you, nor from among the disbelievers; and fear Allah if you indeed are true believers. also in Surah An-Nisa Ayat 140. "when you hear the Verses of Allah being denied and mocked at, then sit not with them," and in Surah Aal Imran Ayat 118 "O you who believe! Take not those as (your) advisors, (consultants, protectors, helpers, friends, etc.) Those who are outside your religion (like Hindus, Jews, Christians, and hypocrites) since they will not fail to do their best to corrupt you. They desire to harm you severely. Hatred has already appeared from their mouths, but what their breasts conceal is far worse. Indeed We have made plain to you the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses) if you understand. This Hadith forbids Muslims from befriending infidels and stresses that they should establish a bond of friendship and fraternity with the pious persons only, also induces one to avoid the company of impious people and seek the association of the pious persons.
